Vocational awakening

« It is more than ever urgent, especially today, that is spread and rooted in the conviction that it is all the members of the Church, without exception, who have the grace and responsibility to look after vocations.  The Vatican II Council was as explicit as it could when it said that « the task of promoting the increase in priestly vocations belongs to the whole Christian community, who must fulfill this task above all by living a fully Christian life » (112). It is only on the basis of this conviction that vocations will be able to show its truly ecclesiastical nature, and develop a concerted action plan, by making use of specific organizations and appropriate instruments of communion and co-responsibility. » (John Paul II, Pastores Dabo Vobis, no. 41)

In order to fulfill this conviction expressed by Pope John Paul II on behalf of the Synod of Bishops, the Archdiocese of Gatineau is putting together a ministry for vocational awakening whose goal is to help Christian communities to really become involved in vocations.

This ministry is supported by the Archbishop and all the priests of the diocese, as well as by a guarantor, Brother Daniel, s.c.

Diocesan prayer for vocations

God, our Father,
we thank you for
your Son, Jesus Christ.
Today, He invites us to become
His loyal servants.

God, our Father, we thank You
for Your Holy Spirit.
May He give to each person baptized to discover
and to live his full vocation in the Church.
May he give strength to those
who choose to follow Christ
in the consecrated life,
as ordained ministers or in marriage.

God, our Father, may Your Spirit
give to our communities
to offer to become priests,
to live the consecrated life,
and to accompany those united in Christian marriage.

May Your Spirit of love
make us servants
joyful in the Gospel,
following Your Son
