Pope Francis’ Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation “The Joy of Love” is welcomed throughout Canada
Immediately following the publication on April 8, 2016, of Pope Francis' Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation "Amoris Laetitia: On Love in the Family", a number of Bishops across Canada issued a statement or held a news conference. The text of the Apostolic Exhortation follows the deliberations of the two Synods of Bishops on the marriage and the family which were held at the Vatican in October 2014 and October 2015. CCCB Publications will have printed copies of the Apostolic Exhortation in stock shortly, and pre-orders can already be placed.
At the 2014 Extraordinary Synod, the Most Reverend Paul-André Durocher, Archbishop of Gatineau and then President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), represented the Conference. At the 2015 Ordinary Assembly of the Synod, the four delegates elected by the CCCB were His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop of Toronto; the Most Reverend Richard Smith, Archbishop of Edmonton; the Most Reverend Paul-André Durocher; and the Most Reverend Noël Simard, Bishop of Valleyfield. In addition, His Eminence Gérald Cyprien Cardinal Lacroix, Archbishop of Québec and Primate of Canada, was appointed by Pope Francis as a member of the Synod. Dr. Moira McQueen, Executive Director of the Canadian Catholic Bioethics Institute, Toronto, was invited by the Holy Father to participate as a Synod observer.
